Michelle Rahn (Founding Director / Teacher : English & Spanish)

Michelle discovered her second home, the Dominican Republic, as a foreign exchange student. Like most people who visit the Dominican Republic, she fell in love with the friendly locals, diverse culture, endless sunshine, and of course, the language. Upon returning to the United States, Michelle worked as an Education Specialist at Wisconsin’s Department of Instruction, where she researched and trained teachers in English language acquisition. In Milwaukee she taught secondary Spanish, and then eventually made her way back to the Dominican Republic to teach at the International School of Sosúa. Michelle holds a degree in Education and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Patricia (Teacher: Spanish)

Patricia is from Madrid, Spain. She is a lover of words, communication, culture, and diverse ways of life. And appropriately enough, she completed her undergraduate studies in Journalism and later received her master’s degree in International Relations and Communication. She has since taught Spanish language courses in Tindouf, Algeria and at the Institute of Creative Writing in Spain. After visiting Cabarete for the first time in 2003, Patricia had always looked for the perfect opportunity to make Cabarete her home. For Patricia, Cabarete is a haven for people from around the world looking to enjoy new cultures, sports, the sun, the beach, and beautiful landscapes. Patricia loves to share her enthusiasm for her Spanish, which, according to her, is one of the most beautiful languages in the world.

Claudia (Teacher: French)

Claudia first came here in the Dominican Republic in 2007. Cabarete is the only place where she can surf in the morning, then spend the rest of the day in the boat wakeboarding all year long. In Cabarete she has been able to fulfill her life-long dream : own her own wakeboard school, while learning English and Spanish. At the same time, CLI allows her to keep in contact with her primary profession, teaching. Claudia has a degree in Secondary Education and has several years of experience teaching in Quebec.

Whitney (Teacher: Spanish & English)

Whitney holds a degree in Spanish and is a certified ESL instructor. Whitney loves to teach languages because it provides her students with the ability to communicate with people from across the globe, which is one of the most important and enjoyable skills that exists. She also enjoys meeting new people, and her ability to motivate her students is incomparable. Whitney is very intrigued by the Dominican Republic’s natural beauty and fun-loving locals.

Gabriela (Teacher : Spanish)

Gabriela was born and raised in Mexico, and later moved to the United States and Spain to study Psychology, Sociology, and Spanish Literature. After graduating, she worked as a youth program coordinator and Spanish teacher in Arizona while earning her master’s degree in Education. Gabriela loves to learn about other cultures and is very enthusiastic about sharing her passion for languages with her students.

Amelie (Teacher : French)

Amelie first traveled to the Dominican Republic in 2003 and has since found Cabarete to be her home away from home. She loves that she can practice her favorite sport, kiteboarding, year-round in the Dominican sunshine. She also appreciates Cabarete’s international influences and enjoys making new friends in new languages. After receiving her degree in Education, Amelie dedicated 8 years to teaching French, among other subjects, to immigrant students in Montreal.

Fernanda (Teacher: Spanish)

Fernanda is undoubtedly the most smiley teacher at CLI. A native to Chile, she was drawn to Cabarete by the world-renowned kitesurfing conditions. She enjoys the relationships she creates with her students from around the globe. Fernanda studied and taught in Chile before beginning her adventure around the world.

Julia (Teacher: Spanish & English)

When Julia is not teaching Spanish or English, she can be found all around the island volunteering and making friends. Julia earned her degree in Latin languages in New York City and has since dedicated herself to the Dominican Republic and its people.
